.................................

heat lightning-
the flicker of reruns
on my neighbor's blinds

night reading-
the weight of the heat
of the lamp

sailing
by Polaris
a shooting star

the nun's hand
counting the syllables
of her poem

mid-day heat-
one slow white cloud
changes shape

autumn garden-
the unexpected red
of her lipstick

the steep hill-
a babe on the back
of her mother

gray all day-
a spicy brown sauce
for the tofu

red light-
a few seconds' worth
of robinsong

poetry reading
the latecomer so loud
on tiptoe

leaden sky-
snow on the back
of the tombstone

candleflame-
the downward spiral
of a singed moth
