.................................

not quite
closing her robe
morning dew

old moon
burrowing my toes
into the tide

sudden swell -
taking the tiller
from my father

pavement's end -
spring sun on the face
of a marigold

dawn moon
the heavy boughs
of an apple orchard

first warm night
the broken branch
of a persimmon tree

garden wall
the sun just out of reach
of the onion stalks

northern wind
my shadow beyond
the razor wire

waking up drunk
a thin moon
in the window

still no flowers
on the wisteria vine
morning dew
