The First Temptation Denied
.................................
I have never had an appetite
for fruit.
I do not have a season that comes
upon me
where I feel like Eve &
must indulge.
Rather I am a rooted girl
give me the dark hard fibrous life
the strange smell of soil &
the black tint of earth
beneath my nails.
Lusty, rich and swollen
is how I have lived
life.
To me the fruit eaters
thin, transparent, pensive,
are on the edge
of a sick sweet precipice
& below
very shallow waters.
