From the Gut
.................................
Blood and steel and crisp white linen,
overdose on a sleepless night,
Anne and Sylvia evolved beyond their worlds.
When bonding works, one to another,
generally both are grown
to about the same level. I heard it
from a shrink, it must be so.
Evolved beyond their worlds, those
troubled relationships, their lives
withered like bedside tulips.
The petals, scattered, gathered,
are silken and fragrant, and we
cast them on our pillows
on those other sleepless nights.
