motionless
.................................

i have no words left for you --

  evasion evades me
a criminal wreathed with small blue flowers.
  your name
is common in a foreign place.
  mine cannot
be tongued, released
  a white rustle
  of doves
in canonization --
  not even by you.

  when mirror speaks
to mirror
  only blank walls
  meet
two subjects cannot
  make a sentence

lonely helen
.................................

good for a night
but not good for a rose
those men with their rough hands
and pot bellies -- gap-toothed hillbillies
gawking every troy.
  good for a night
but not good for a rose
  paris, another
gin and tonic
  so i can forget you
and menelaus
  and the eyes
  on my breasts

embarazada
.................................

he got her
she got herself
  an uncommon cold an
arrest a traffic violation
  she should pay
a purchase a shoplifting conviction
a currency a number good for an equivalent
quantity of gold in fort knox
  he should pay
for his own
  services rendered petty
theft brand spanking new car

textual evidence
.................................

a word torn from the breast of text
  hovering over the ragged hole.

eyes skip over the flimsy gap
  a low hurdle in
the steeplechase of symbols parading
solemn across the paper.

  i am not
that paper. i am a small word hovering
in the air a seagull begging for popcorn
